As long as my oldest daughter La can remember, Valentine’s Day has been a BIG deal at our house. I know it’s a ‘commercialized’ holiday and we should be celebrating love year round. I get it! We do! But on this one special day where I can go overboard, I do. La is an amazing kid and I want to celebrate how much I love her. She loves waking up and coming downstairs to see what each new year brings. It is almost as exciting as a birthday or Christmas morning! From the decorations to specially selected food, there is always something new.
I’ve known this lady since I was 5 years old. Summer and I lived just down the street from each other and spent countless hours climbing in and out of a creek, eating honeysuckle and playing jungle woman. We’ve been through everything together. There is so much history here…one of those people that knows absolutely everything about you and loves you anyway.
One week into the Whole30 challenge and I can definitively say it’s been an adventure!
Embarking on the Whole30 is part of my efforts to Invest in Myself this year. Read more about that here.
As a refresher, read more about Whole30 here.
The basics: eliminate grains, legumes, dairy and sugar for 30 days.
As part of my goal to Invest in Myself (read more about it here), I have committed to reading more on a regular basis. While my go-to books were almost always fiction, I’m trying to branch out and read more non fiction. Whether it’s self help, health related or biographies, I’ll include a few non fiction titles each month.
If you’re like me, you do the things you think you’re ‘supposed’ to be doing, but things you need to do for yourself fall to the wayside. Whether it’s eating right, exercising, purposefully learning something new, or even getting your hair done- those things just don’t seem as pressing as whatever it is that needs to be done or what is expected to be done.
(How I’ve worn my hair for the past 20+ years)
Easy like Saturday morning, when it’s sunny and 55+ degrees in January. Time for my every other month hair appointment. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the same hairstyle- past my shoulders, long layers, semi banged (but always banging!) medium brown with various shades of highlights. The last few weeks I’ve been itching to try something new. New like a long layered bob. Or a lob, as it is.
I am always trying to find a way to spend less time getting ready in the morning. If I can sleep another 15 minutes, have a second cup of coffee or have a leisurely drive to the office each day versus wash my hair, I’m going to do it. The problem is, I have this need to always have decent looking hair. No, it actually has to be good looking hair.
Really good hair. It has to be On Point.
