While I’m sitting at home listening to ice pelt the windows, I thought I’d recap our Valentine’s Day weekend!
La received her special Valentine lunch Friday, even though it wasn’t officially Valentine’s Day. She reminded me a week beforehand that she’d really like to have it for school Friday instead of at home on Saturday. Since we are all in the Whole30, I needed to make it as compliant as possible, but still special.
I made turkey rollups in romaine lettuce leaves with mayo & black pepper, individually wrapped in waxed paper and twisted the ends to make them look like candy (imagine a large tootsie roll!). I also packed two of the paleo brownies in wax paper and sealed them with Valentine stickers. I purchased some small bags of dried fruit, and although I know they have added sugar, they were a whole lot healthier than a box of chocolates! I put dried pineapple, mango & bananas in a cute cellophane bag and tied it with a ribbon. To drink, I caved and included an Ice Sparkling flavored water with a cute valentine’s day cup and straw.
For La’s Valentine gift, I found some really great non food gifts:
“Just Between Us” – a mother and daughter journal and some $1 gel pens from Target. There are pages for both Mom and Daughter to fill out, bookmarks for each of you and you just pass it back and forth at your leisure.
What a great keepsake for later in life! I can’t think of a better way to communicate, in a no pressure way, exactly what we are each thinking. There are some fun questions and also some serious ones.
La filled out one of the pages and left the book on my desk. After everyone had gone to sleep, I filled out my side and picked a new page. I left it outside her bedroom door that night and so it will continue (I hope!). If you’re looking for a unique gift for a girl anywhere from 8-18, this is perfect and affordable (about $11 via – you can find it HERE.) I bought mine at PaperSource, but it was 50% higher in price :/
With Mother’s Day coming up, this would be a really sweet gift.
I added some bath salts and bath bombs from Whole Body and a Chocolate Layer Cake candle from Yankee Candle. The shiny pink grass is just a filler for the bag :). I picked that up last year after Easter was over and hoarded it. That’s just what I do.
Little V, who will soon be 3 years old(!), got a very thick illustrated Frozen book that includes a CD of all the music from the movie. The CD is instrumental versions of the songs, so we get to sing the words we know and make up the rest. She also got a little tube of mini M&M’s because, well, she’s really cute and loves M&Ms.
Josh and I decided to go low key and do a few surprises. I came home from girls night out Friday night to a bouquet of roses on the kitchen table and a HUGE heart balloon. He is so sweet and thoughtful. I got super lucky!
For him, I picked up some bath products at Whole Body- new deodorant (he’s into organic products, so I have to search a bit to find those), his go-to body wash, and a huge handful of samples I scored at Cosmetic Market. The girl that was working that day asked if there was a man in my life who would like any samples and I mentioned that my husband uses Mario Badescu products. She loaded me up! Look at this haul:
Saturday night we grilled steaks and hung out with the girls.
It was everything a Valentine’s Day should be! How was your Valentine’s Day??
